Freshman Scholarships, Graduate Scholarships and Merit Awards
These are very competitive scholarships program. The American University (AU) don’t offer full scholarship, only partial, and they base their selection on a series of academic excellence, outstanding communication skills in English, leadership, community service and volunteering. It should be noted that the school do not offer need – based financial help to non – US students.

All registered or admitted students in American University (AU), regardless of their nationality, are considered for academic/merit scholarships for which they are eligible.
The American University (AU) is a private research institution in Washington, D.C. Its main campus spans 90 acres at the former site of Fort Gaines on Ward Circle, in the Spring Valley neighborhood in the northwest of the District. The scholarship award can be renewed throughout the four – year stay in the school based on your continued academic success.
If you wish to apply for the American University scholarship, you should make sure to submit your application on or before the deadline of January 15 for the fall semester.
It should also be noted that the merit award is offered only at the time of admission. You can’t be considered for the scholarship one you have begun your studies. And scholarship amounts are not increased. The initial amount of the award remains constant throughout your stay in the university.
Most merit-based scholarships do not require an application, except for the Frederick Douglas Distinguished Scholars Program, which provides full tuition, room and board, and the United Methodist Scholarship, which provides partial tuition scholarship awards.
How to Apply
Your admissions application is your application for a merit-based scholarship. All students are considered on the basis of their admissions application; although in some scholarships like FDDS and United Methodist scholarship only, a separate application is required.
